The company brings together expertise across synthetic biology, molecular engineering, semiconductor design, and materials science. Co-founder and CTO Bill Banyai previously co-founded Twist Bioscience, whilst CEO Varun Mehta founded Nimble Storage, a data infrastructure company. The team aims to create storage systems that can outlast conventional silicon-based alternatives whilst operating with greater energy efficiency.
Atlas Data Storage operates across multiple technical domains including DNA synthesis, CMOS ASIC design, and advanced materials science. The core focus is developing storage infrastructure capable of addressing long-term data preservation challenges at scale, with systems designed to manage growing data demands across institutional and organisational needs.
