Axelera AI
Axelera AI develops edge AI inference hardware and software built on Digital In-Memory Computing and RISC-V dataflow architecture, with products including the Metis AIPU, Europa platform and Voyager SDK.
Axelera AI, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, designs hardware and software for AI inference at the edge. Its approach rests on two proprietary building blocks: Digital In-Memory Computing (D-IMC) technology and a RISC-V dataflow architecture, intended to run AI workloads where data is generated rather than in centralised cloud infrastructure.
The product line spans silicon and software. The Metis AIPU family of AI Processing Units delivers up to 214 TOPS, while the higher-performance Europa platform is rated at 629 TOPS and positioned against GPUs at lower power consumption and cost. On the software side, the Voyager SDK provides more than 100 pre-optimised models. The company's technology is aimed at deployments in industrial automation, smart cities, retail, healthcare, robotics and aerospace.
Axelera AI has raised over $450 million in equity, grants and venture debt, described as the largest investment ever in an EU AI semiconductor company. The team numbers more than 190 experts drawn from 18 countries, with research and development offices in Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom alongside the Dutch headquarters. Engineering work spans semiconductor design, accelerator architecture, and AI software development including SDK and model optimisation.
