About

BORA is a German kitchen appliance manufacturer founded in 2007 by master joiner Willi Bruckbauer. The company's central innovation is downdraft ventilation technology, which extracts cooking vapors at the source - directly at the hob - rather than overhead, removing the need for traditional extractor hoods. This approach is designed to support open-plan kitchen layouts where cooking, dining, and living spaces are no longer separated by bulky overhead hardware. BORA has since expanded its product range to include steam ovens, refrigeration, and kitchen lighting, positioning itself as a provider of integrated kitchen solutions.

Headquartered with operations across Germany, Austria, and Australia, BORA employs around 750 people and distributes through more than 8,000 retail partners in over 40 countries. Its manufacturing takes place at a purpose-built facility in Niederndorf - referred to as the Vertical Factory - which the company describes as reflecting its commitment to sustainable and human-centered production. The company has received more than 100 design awards, including the Red Dot and iF Design Awards.

BORA's origins in craftsmanship continue to shape its stated values: an emphasis on precision, respect for the people who build its products, and a willingness to challenge established conventions in kitchen design. The company's culture is oriented around the idea that the kitchen should be a space for connection rather than isolation - a principle that underpins both its product philosophy and its working environment.
