Headway, founded in 2019, operates a technology platform designed to address a structural problem in American mental healthcare: the majority of therapists do not accept insurance, placing therapy out of financial reach for most people. The company's platform works on two sides of that market - helping therapists accept insurance and manage their practices, and helping patients find and afford care through their insurance coverage.
The platform has grown to include over 60,000 mental healthcare providers across all 50 states, who use Headway's practice management software to run their businesses. On the consumer side, the company has served more than one million patients through its therapist search and insurance payment tools. The network spans the full United States, making it one of the larger national mental health provider networks built on a single technology platform.
Headway has raised over $325 million in funding and is currently at Series D stage. Its technical work spans healthcare software, insurance and payment processing, provider network infrastructure, and patient-provider search and matching.
