JerseySTEM
JerseySTEM is an all-volunteer nonprofit delivering 10-week project-based STEM programmes and mentoring to middle school girls in underrepresented communities in New Jersey.
JerseySTEM is a nonprofit network that delivers hands-on STEM education to middle school girls in underrepresented communities across New Jersey. The organisation is 100% volunteer-led: there is no paid staff, and its programmes are run entirely by members who contribute professional expertise drawn from technology, education and related fields.
Its principal activity is a series of 10-week after-school programmes for middle school girls, built around project-based learning that blends teamwork, problem-solving and real-world inquiry. Alongside teaching, volunteers create curricula that combine technical knowledge with pedagogical practice, and mentor students over the course of each programme. Work spans curriculum development, mentoring and operations management, and members commit to meaningful, consistent engagement rather than one-off participation.
The organisation operates as a collaborative, community-driven network with a mission focused on gender equity and diversity in STEM. It works through partnerships with socially responsible companies, universities and youth organisations. Roles are volunteer positions, and the emphasis is on teamwork and sustained contribution of professional skills.
