Mistral

Mistral is a research-led company that develops and openly releases state-of-the-art open-weight generative AI models. Founded in 2023, it builds frontier AI as an alternative to closed, proprietary systems, publishing its models so that developers, enterprises and institutions can build on them while retaining full control over their data and applications. Its technical work spans generative AI, large language models, open-weight model development and frontier AI research.

The company's founders came from École Polytechnique and from research positions at Google DeepMind and Meta.
