Preply is an online language learning platform that pairs human tutors with AI-powered study assistance. Founded in 2012 by Ukrainian entrepreneurs Kirill Bigai, Serge Lukyanov and Dmytro Voloshyn, the company runs a marketplace connecting learners with tutors for live, one-to-one lessons delivered through its website and mobile apps. A recommendation algorithm matches students with teachers across more than 100,000 tutors teaching over 90 languages to learners in 180 countries. A second product, Preply Business, provides corporate language training for organisations worldwide.

The company employs more than 678 people of over 50 nationalities and maintains offices in Brookline, Massachusetts (headquarters), Barcelona, London, New York and Kyiv. Technical work spans artificial intelligence, machine-learning recommendation systems, AI-powered study assistance and mobile and web application development for an online marketplace. Preply raised $150m in a Series D round.

Operations are multinational and distributed across several cities, with engineering presence in Kyiv alongside Barcelona, London and New York. The firm states a mission of reshaping personalised education at global scale by combining human tutoring with AI.
