Founded in 2014 in Galway, Ireland, MBRYONICS began as a family venture with a bold vision: to build the internet in space. What started as a deep tech startup has grown into Ireland's largest photonics company - a world leader in photonic satellite communications hardware, software, and technology. Over the past decade, the siblings behind MBRYONICS recognized that traditional satellite communication systems faced fundamental limitations in bandwidth and scalability. They saw photonics as the key to unlocking unlimited capacity for space networks, and they built the company to deliver on that promise.
Today, MBRYONICS operates as a vertically integrated powerhouse, combining end-to-end capabilities across optics, photonics, photonic integrated circuits (PICs), robotics, opto-mechanical systems, embedded software, mechatronics, advanced materials, ASICs/FPGAs, and co-packaged optics. Their technology platform spans ground-based optical systems, all-optical payloads for satellites, advanced manufacturing solutions, and network automation software. From their Photon-1 volume manufacturing facility in Galway, the company designs, engineers, and manufactures optical payloads, optical ground stations, and sophisticated communication terminals that serve customers ranging from the European Space Agency to the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. With over 100 employees including more than 30 PhD graduates, MBRYONICS continues pushing boundaries in free-space optical communications, quantum key distribution, satellite mesh networks, and the infrastructure that will connect Earth and space.
